Mesmer
Master the mind, bend reality, and shatter your enemies with illusions.
The Mesmer is a master of illusion and mental manipulation, wielding magic that bends perception to confuse enemies and protect allies. Rather than relying on raw elemental destruction, these spellcasters create phantasmal duplicates, manipulate time through chronomancy, and shatter the minds of their foes with psychic force. They serve as versatile controllers and strikers, capable of overwhelming opponents with sheer numbers of illusions or stunning them into submission.

Lore & Background
The most renowned practitioners often hail from the human city of Divinity's Reach or the scholarly halls of the Shining Blade, though the magic is not exclusive to any single race in the modern era. Mesmers are known for their flamboyant personalities and unshakeable confidence, traits necessary when one must convince an entire battlefield that a phantom clone is real. Their greatest fear is not death, but being ignored; if no one believes the illusion, the Mesmer's power fades into nothingness.
In Their Own Story
The air in the canyon shimmered, heat waves distorting the view of the approaching Charr warband. Kaelen, a veteran Mesmer, did not raise his sword or chant a fireball. Instead, he simply flicked his wrist, and suddenly there were three Kaelens standing before them. The lead Centurion hesitated, confused by the identical faces mocking him from different angles. With a laugh that echoed from all directions at once, Kaelen stepped back into the shadows of his own making, leaving only phantoms to dance with the enemy blades while the real mage prepared to shatter their minds.
Reader's Guide
Mesmers excel at creating chaos on the battlefield by spawning clones and phantasms that mimic their actions. Their unique mechanic involves 'shattering' these illusions to deal damage, apply conditions like blindness or confusion, or grant boons such as protection and regeneration. The class offers a high skill ceiling due to its complex rotation of maintaining multiple active skills while managing the timing of shatters. Players can specialize in Chronomancer, manipulating time to rewind health and create powerful clones, or Mirage, focusing on stealth and precision strikes with daggers. Gear for Mesmers often prioritizes traits that enhance illusion duration or shatter potency. While they have low personal durability compared to warriors, their ability to confuse enemies makes them surprisingly resilient in skilled hands. They are acquired as a core profession available from the start of the game.

- Mesmers can technically kill an enemy by tricking them into attacking their own allies or themselves through confusion.
- The class is one of the few that utilizes 'phantasms' which are distinct from standard clones and have unique behaviors.
- In lore, the ability to create illusions requires immense mental focus, often leaving Mesmers exhausted after prolonged use.
